Description

B+ is one of the most widely circulated Psilocybe cubensis strains in existence, and one of the most argued about. Its origin has been attributed variously to Florida, to Southeast Asia, and to a Netherlands grow kit operation in the 1990s, and none of those accounts has ever been settled. What is beyond argument is that B+ became a foundational strain in the hobby and remains a fixture in nearly every serious specimen library.

Morphologically, B+ shows large, rounded to broadly convex caps in warm golden to caramel tones on thick, resilient stems. It is a physically forgiving specimen that holds its structure well, which makes it easier to handle and photograph than more delicate lines.

Where B+ earns its place in a microscopy collection is deposit quality. It drops densely and evenly, and its spores sit at the smaller, more uniformly ellipsoid end of the cubensis range, which produces exceptionally clean fields under the scope with minimal clumping. That combination of density and uniformity makes B+ the strain most commonly recommended for micrometry practice and for anyone learning to measure and characterize cubensis spores accurately.
